Senior Routing and Switching Engineer
Role description
  • Design, configure and deploy Routing and Switching systems in line with IDS-INDATA design
  • Assist the Sales team on technical projects and requests from the customer
  • Ensure the customer SLAs’ are met for deployments
  • Maintaining a consistently high level of service delivery
  • Mentoring of Junior Routing and Switching Engineer
  • Serve as an escalation point for the Support team in regards of Routing and Switching technology Incidents and requests
Areas of responsibility
  • Deploy technical projects & bespoke configurations on customer premises (remote or on-Site).
  • Act as a technical lead for site deployments
  1. Troubleshooting\technical investigations\route cause Analysis
  2. Assist the Project Manager with change requests in regards to your deployments.
  • Perform and Process Technical Surveys & Audits
  • Documentation:
  1. Identifying areas where processes can be improved\newly implemented (Internal and Customers specific)
  2. Update/maintain Routing and Switching documentation and procedures
  • Ensure sufficient Logs/detail collected for technical escalation or reassignment to 3rd Party Providers
  • Mentoring of Junior Routing and Switching Engineer
  1. In their daily tasks and fault finding\technical improvement
  2. In adapting to new Technology
  3. In expanding their Routing and Switching/Networking/Security/etc... Skills
  • Liaising with 3rd parties where necessary to ensure an efficient and expeditious resolution to Incidents/Requests are achieved within the contractual SLA
  • Reporting: 
  1. Assist with monthly activity reports and weekly updates on project deployments
  2. Liaise with the Project Manager to ensure projects are completed within the estimated time scale
Education and experience

Qualifications

  • Cisco certifications are desired (Should be current and valid)
  1. Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching highly desirable
  2. Working towards CCNP Routing and Switching (preferably completed at a minimum the modules CIPTV1 and CIPTV2)
  3. Cisco CCNA or CCNP Datacentre highly desirable
  4. Cisco CCDA and CCDP highly desirable
  • VMWare VCP 5/6 highly desirable

Additional requirements

  • Person would need to be able to travel and spend time away from home for short periods of time
  • Have a clean valid UK driving license
  • Willing to commute to our office in Malvern for the initial period of employment or relocate, homeworking available following the employee probationary period for candidates whose commute to the IDS-INDATA office would be over one hour 
Required knowledge, skills and abilities
A good understanding of ITIL Process.
A good understanding of networking technologies & protocols.
A good understanding of network management applications such as Cisco Prime
A strong knowledge of the Cisco Routing and Switching portfolio
Ability to deploy and maintain the following in accordance with Cisco Architecture guidelines:
Cisco Catalyst switches portfolio 2K/3K/4K/6K/9K
Cisco Wireless 3500 and 5500 controllers
Cisco access points
Knowledge of any of the following would be advantageous but is not mandatory:
Cisco ISE
Cisco AnyConnect applications such as NAM and ISE compliance module
802.1x with native Windows supplicant
Aruba/HPE wireless
HPE switches
Aruba/HPE Clear Pass
Nexus data centre products 2K/5K/7K
VMWare (Ver 5/6)
Cisco UCS-C/B servers
Fluent English is essential
Excellent verbal & written communication skills in English
Additional language skills are advantageous (French/German/Spanish/Russian/Polish)
Ability to use Microsoft applications, Word, Excel, Visio and Outlook
